Who receives the money raised?
Money raised through the "Corvettes For Kids" Road Tour will be directed to children in need. Great care is taken in selecting what charity will receive the pledges to ensure that the majority of funds raised actually go to the children.
This year, the charity is Camp Oochigeas, based in Toronto, Ontario. Camp Oochigeas was formed in 1984 as the first residential cancer camp in Canada. During the summer of 2003, Camp Oochigeas will offer 3 two-week sessions for 200 children. 180 volunteer counselors provide leadership through their special talents and skills. The camp is located at Rosseau Lake College near Parry Sound, Ontario. Camp Oochigeas combines lots of fun with proper health care for each camper. A pediatric oncologist and two oncology nurses form The Hospital for Sick Children are on site at all times. They administer routine chemotherapy, perform necessary blood counts and handle any emergencies. The "Med Shed" allows campers on treatment to attend camp as well as those off treatment.
You can visit the Camp Oochigeas web site at www.ooch.org. Corvettes For Kids Road Tour has participated with Camp Oochigeas in the development of their new camp site. Part of the funds raised have been donated towards a cabin for the campers. YES, there is a CFKRT cabin at the new camp based on our generous support. The balance of the funds raised will go towards sending kids to camp next summer.
It costs $2,100.00 to send each kid to the camp for 2 weeks. Let's send as many kids as we can.
