"Corvettes For Kids" – Results 2007
The 2007 CFKRT Once Again A Great Day! 52 Corvettes were registered and over 91 people participated. The day was sunny with a little cloud and a little on the brisk side but was an excellent fall day.
We started our tour at Tim Horton's just east of Hwy # 403 on Dundas Street West in Mississauga where the crew from Tim’s provided coffee and lots of their great product. We traveled in two groups under the watchful eye of the Southern Cruisers who helped us through the intersections. As usual a fine job by their crew
We followed the 403 – QEW to Hamilton then made our way along beautiful urban and country roads at a relaxed pace, through Dundas , Ancaster then a short stop at the look out in Dundas. Then on our way to Christie Lake conservation area, our lunch stop where we enjoyed lunch in the park as once again generously donated by Lianne and James Krane from the Subway shop in Milton. After a short stop we continued on to Webster Falls where we continued our lunch break with a stroll down to the base of the falls or over to Tews Falls.
After lunch, we headed further west to the East River Road next to the Grand River through St George Cambridge and the on to the 401 back to Mississauga. We completed our tour at Kool Kats Pub and Grill for a BBQ dinner, silent and live auction and the prize presentations. Where Melissa DeMers from Camp Oochigeas accepted our donations of… a drum role please… $25,104.00
The funds raised by the participants made it a successful day, 3 people reached the "Victory Lane" level and raised over $3,000. 1 person reached the “Checkered Flag” for raising over $2000. 2 people reached the “Pit Stop” for raising over $1000. 2 reached the “Green Flag” level for over $500. and 5 people hit the “On The Grid” mark for raising over $200. and several others at the $100.00 level. Great job done by all! This year we had some participants that were not able to attend or stay for the day but still brought in some generous pledges
Once again our Loyal sponsors came through, some of which have already been mentioned here. Sunoco in addition to the Gas coupons provided each participant with the new Sunoco Performance Points card. Meguire’s filled our table with their car care products. Wilson Niblett and Autobahn with the auction items. We even had MacLaren McCann Gm advertising agency who already does a lot of work for Camp Ooch come on board this year and helped with the auction. Thanks to the support of our sponsors for the prizes. Visit the website sponsor section for a complete listing.
All in all, we had a great time without any incidents. Even thou the second group missed a turn they managed to get back on track quickly and others that got side tracked found us at the lunch or dinner spots. Initial feedback from the participants is that they had fun, enjoyed the route, food and generally had fun with their Corvette friends.
A special thanks to Scott and Kay Sinclair, Janet and Nick Polasek, James Krane, and Carl Kuhne for their work promoting the event and our volunteer’s on the day, Brian and Carol Taylor, Leslie Parada, Melissa DeMers, Kyla Hunter, Matthew Conderan, Wayne Fenske, Melanie Lambertson and all that helped to put together the 2007 CFKRT.
And to all the Corvette owners who came out - thank you for your support! We all had a lot of fun, I know the kids thank each and every one of you for your time and generosity in raising funds to make their lives just a little better with their fond memories of their time at camp.
